The articles of association define the WSA as a non-profit organization registered in and subject to the laws of Washington D.C. The WSA should function in the following five areas. 1. MEMBERSHIP AND AIMS The WSA is the international association of Subud national organizations and has 10 aims (see here) 2. DECISION MAKING Decisions are made by consensus. The WSA members shall be guided by democratic principles and shall seek the guidance of the latihan. However, tradition is also recognized as playing an important role in the Association's development. 3. AUTONOMY Subud bodies may act autonomously within their own domain, unless specifically limited by the constitution. 4. RESPONSIBILITIES OF SPECIFIC BODIES Congress is the supreme authority of the WSA and its Affiliates. Between Congresses the authority of Congress is vested in the World Subud Council. Between Congresses the WSA and ISC Chairpersons are responsible to the member countries via the Council. The Directors of WSA are the WSA Chairman and the Zonal Reps; each director has one vote in decisions of the Board of Directors. ISC is the executive committee of the WSA. Congress may grant affiliate membership to autonomous international Subud organizations but Congress requires that these Affiliates to meet certain conditions and Congress affirms its responsibility to safeguard the attainment of all the aims of the WSA, even when these are delegated to an affiliate. 5. OTHER POINTS ISC will prepare and present to the Members a set of audited financial statements within six months of the end of the fiscal year. Resolutions to change the By-laws must be circulated to all Members one year before a Congress.
